Everyone is taught that if the sun is shining outside, that’s because something is happening inside, and it’s called weather. One doesn’t have to study the science to notice that this is not always the case. We see the world in many different ways depending on the weather. While an umbrella keeps us dry from the rain, we see dry, sun-beaten grass under a shadowing tree. In the summer, we see flowers, some of which are red or yellow, while others bloom in green and blue. We know that the green-blooming plants are healthy, because we see the fruit they bear. There are red-fruited trees as well, which we know are blossoming because we can see the blossoms. But, do we know what is making the sun shine and the heat cause rain, especially if there isn’t any sun shining outside? Through the study of weather, I think we can take away the danger of believing that just because something is happening inside the clouds, that what is inside is what’s making the weather happen. Weather is truly a thing of the cosmos. By focusing on what is actually happening, we can not only improve our weather skills, but we can help the people we work with to understand the world around them. When we see plants in bloom, we notice the temperature, humidity, and color of the day. If we know the chemical properties of water and air, we can predict the nature of the coming rain. But why does the sun shine? And why is the temperature warmer in the summer than in the winter? I think this is the hardest thing for children to grasp. That our world is not just what we see on the TV or in newspapers or what the Internet shows us. Even in today’s more literate world, we still have access to only a very small fraction of the Earth’s information. The first time I remember hearing about the "Big Bang Theory," I thought it was a fairy tale. And, while I wasn’t wrong to assume it was just a myth, it wasn’t until I actually heard it explained. I was in science class when someone tried to explain the Big Bang theory. I’ll never forget how I felt at the time. We were talking about the science behind a myth, and I felt pretty silly. Now, I understand the science behind the "Big Bang Theory" and why people believe in it 01e38acffe
