Hanover Township is a township in Tioga County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 4,941 at the 2010 census.
History
The William N. Rogers House, Hall-Scott-Stella-Turner House, Isaac M. Shepard House, and Lehigh Valley Railway Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Hanover Township School was built in 1917.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of, of which, of it is land and of it (0.79%) is water.
Hanover Township is bordered by Adams County to the north, East Allen Township to the east, North Allen Township to the south, East Earl Township to the west, and Conyngham Township to the northwest.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 5,285 people, 1,917 households, and 1,398 families residing in the township. The population density was 135.2 people per square mile (52.3/km²). There were 2,009 housing units at an average density of 50.7/sq mi (19.5/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.67% White, 0.13% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.66% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.08% of the population.
There were 1,917 households, out of which 41.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.8% were married couples living together, 8.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.8% were non-families. 20.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
